Returns and Refunds Notice Examples

All eCommerce websites should have a returns and refunds policy. Below is an example of how it might look. You may use this information on your own website or go and examine similar websites in your country to see how they have written theirs. This is not a legal document and does not necessarily apply to your business in your country. It is your responsibility to ensure your website complies with all local legal requirements.


Returns and Refunds Policy #

Our policy lasts 30 days. If 30 days have passed since your purchase, unfortunately, we cannot offer you a refund or exchange.

To be eligible for a return, your item must

  • Be unused and in the same condition as you received it.
  • Be in its original packaging.

Non-Returnable Items
The following items cannot be returned

  1. Perishable goods (e.g., food, flowers, newspapers, or magazines).
  2. Intimate or sanitary goods, hazardous materials, or flammable liquids or gases.
  3. Gift cards, downloadable software products, and certain health and personal care items.

Consumer Rights (NZ & AU)
This policy does not exclude any guarantees or rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (NZ) or the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), such as guarantees that goods are of acceptable quality and fit for purpose.

To Process a Return

  • Proof of purchase (e.g., receipt) is required.
  • Contact our team through the details provided below before sending items back.

Refunds (If Applicable)
Once we receive and inspect your return, we will notify you by email regarding its approval or rejection. If approved, the refund will be processed to your original payment method within 7-10 business days.

Delayed Refunds
If your refund hasn’t appeared after the stated time frame

  • Check your bank account again.
  • Contact your credit card provider, as refunds may take time to process.
  • Contact your bank for further assistance.
    If the issue persists, please reach out to us directly.

Sale Items
Only regular-priced items are eligible for refunds; sale items cannot be refunded.

Exchanges (If Applicable)
We replace defective or damaged items. Contact us for approval and instructions before sending the item for an exchange.

Shipping Costs
Shipping costs for returns are the responsibility of the customer. If a refund is issued, the return shipping cost may be deducted from the refund amount.

Returns Address
Please return your product to the address provided during your return process. We recommend using tracked shipping for all returns, as we cannot guarantee receipt of the returned items.

Items Eligible for Partial Refunds
In some cases, partial refunds may apply:

  • Books with obvious signs of use.
  • CDs, DVDs, software, or other media that have been opened.
  • Any item not in its original condition, damaged, or missing parts for reasons not due to our error.
  • Items returned more than 30 days after delivery.

Gifts
If the item was marked as a gift when purchased and shipped directly to you, you’ll receive a gift credit once the return is processed. If the item wasn’t marked as a gift or the purchaser had it sent to themselves, the refund will be issued to the original purchaser.
